This is Marty’s fourth year mentoring in PW.

In prior years, she worked with Becky Dean, Laura Creedle, Lana Pattinson, & Alex Reda. What are we looking for in a mentee this year?

Someone who wants to work hard.
Who’s able to take constructive criticism.
And who wants to take their manuscript to the next level.

What will we offer our mentee?

Character development
Ways to enhance setting
Deep pov/voice
The inside scoop on show/tell
Brainstorming plot issues
We’re kind but honest. The bonus in having two mentors is that, though we love each other’s work, we don’t always agree, so you benefit from an additional, subjective opinion – if you’ve received even one rejection, you’ll know how important this balance is!
We’re prepared to make every effort to help and will tell you straight up how we think your manuscript should go, but you need to love your characters and story enough to fight for some points.

We’ll provide everything laid out in the Pitch Wars handbook.

We’ll also stick with you long after Pitchwars ’18 is over, offering advice on offers/being on sub etc.—and we’re eager to introduce you to our #TeamFineWine family.

WE’RE ONLY MENTORING ADULT

(Plus New Adult—if you’ll consider changing to Adult)

Romance (Contemporary, Sci-Fi, Fantasy,
Paranormal, Romantic Suspense, Seasoned, or Historical)

(Don’t see your style of romance? ASK!)

Romantic Comedy

AND the following, with or without romance plotlines:

Women’s Fiction
Space Opera
Soft Sci-fi
Urban Fantasy/Contemporary Fantasy
Steampunk
Adventure
Literary Fiction

What we hope to see in romance entries:  All heat levels, Alpha or Beta heroes, Main characters with agency, First or Close Third. Dual or single pov, There must be CONSENT

If you’re calling your MS a Romance, it must have a Happily Ever After or a Happy For Now (HEA/HFN). A love story can have a tragic ending, but that’s not traditional romance.

Diversity & LGBT is 100% ALWAYS welcome

Please don’t send Crime/heavy procedural, Inspirational, Memoirs, Non-fiction, Novellas
